Act \u201cas if\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Acting \u201cas if I can\u201d or \u201cas if I already am\u201d is a powerful motivational technique. It involves imagining future success\u2014how it would feel, who you would share it with, what you would do. More broadly, it includes behaving as the person you want to become: more optimistic, open, and flexible.<\/p>\n

A helpful question is: \u201cWhat would I do if I were braver?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Reward small wins<\/strong><\/p>\n

When acquiring new skills, it is important to set small goals and reward yourself upon achieving them. Breaking larger goals into manageable steps allows us to track progress and maintain motivation. Rewards can be simple\u2014a piece of chocolate, socialising after work, or self-recognition for effort and achievement.<\/p>\n

See challenges as opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n

New ways of working, promotions, and change may be exciting but also highlight areas where we are less skilled. Viewing these situations as opportunities for growth allows us to learn and develop, even when we lack experience at first.<\/p>\n

Accept failure<\/strong><\/p>\n

Accepting mistakes\u2014our own and others\u2019\u2014is fundamental to a growth mindset. It allows room for imperfection and shifts focus from errors to solutions and strengths that support future success.<\/p>\n

Step outside your comfort zone<\/strong><\/p>\n

Growth requires actively seeking opportunities beyond comfort zones. While comfort offers ease and satisfaction, it can also lead to stagnation. Growth begins with one new activity\u2014perhaps even this week.<\/p>\n

A growth mindset is not something we either have or don\u2019t have. Each of us may be more growth-oriented in some areas and more fixed in others. With practice, we can move from \u201cI can\u2019t\u201d<\/em> to \u201cI\u2019ll try\u201d<\/em> and eventually \u201cI can and I will.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
